Our Story
Every business has a starting point. Ours began in 1996, with a belief that flooring should be treated as a craft, not a commodity.
Before entering the flooring industry, Helen Holland trained and worked as a seamstress, running a dressmaking studio and hand-making wedding dresses. This gave her a deep understanding of textiles, materials, tolerances and finish — an attention to detail that would later define how flooring was approached.
As the flooring business developed, Helen became a qualified Interior Designer while running the company, deliberately expanding her technical and design knowledge alongside hands-on delivery. She made it her business to understand how homes are built, how sites operate, and how materials perform in real environments.
This combination of textile craftsmanship, interior design qualification and practical construction knowledge formed the foundation of New Homes Flooring from the outset.
Building on Experience
From the beginning, the business was built on strong construction knowledge as well as design expertise.
As the company continued to grow, Chester Fernandes joined after gaining experience with Bovis Homes, bringing
further exposure to large-scale development delivery, build programmes and the commercial pressures faced by site teams.
That shared understanding — combining material and textile expertise, interior design knowledge, and first-hand site delivery experience — strengthened the business further. It reinforced an approach focused on buildability, programme awareness and accountability on site.
Together, Helen and Chester steered New Homes Flooring through growth, change and challenge, shaping it into a contractor developers could rely on — not just to install flooring, but to take responsibility for it.
